Introduction

Behind every successful operation, there are people working quietly to keep standards high, risks low, and teams safe. At Cappagh Browne, that crucial role now has a dedicated home in our new Quality and Compliance Team - a group committed to protecting not just our processes, but our people.

Led by Scott Willard, Head of PMO, alongside Quality & Compliance Coordinators Anne Vasiliou and Joe Girvan, the team has already begun reshaping how we work – making compliance feel less like a tick-box exercise and more like a partnership.

More Than Rules and Regulations

Ask anyone what “compliance” means and they’ll probably imagine red tape, forms, and finger-pointing. But at Cappagh Browne, it looks very different.

“Our role isn’t about telling people off,” explains Anne. “We’re here to help. If there’s a challenge, we’ll work with the teams to simplify it, fix it, or find a smarter way forward.”

Joe agrees, adding: “It’s not just about showing numbers and saying what’s wrong – we’re working behind the scenes to make things easier for the teams. If there’s a way to take away extra steps or improve the process, that’s what we’ll push for.”

Already, that mindset has led to real change. From rewording risk assessment questions to make them clearer, to shortening vehicle check times so they’re more practical, the team is streamlining processes while boosting pass rates across the board.

Protecting Standards, Protecting People

At its heart, quality and compliance isn’t just about protecting contracts or meeting ISO accreditations – it’s about keeping our people safe.

“It feels good knowing that what we do helps protect the gangs and the company,” says Anne. “If there was ever an incident, we’d have the evidence to back our teams up. More importantly, by checking things daily, we’re making sure people get home safe.”

Joe highlights the human side of the job: “The numbers show improvement, but what matters most is that the guys on site are safer. When we see compliance scores go up, that means risk is going down – and that’s why we’re here.”

The Hidden Partners in Every Success

What makes this team different is their openness. They don’t operate behind closed doors; their dashboards and reports are accessible to everyone, turning compliance into something transparent and collaborative.

“Rather than being gatekeepers, we see ourselves as partners,” Scott explains. “We’re here to make life easier for the teams, not harder.”

That means spotting trends early, jumping on calls to give live feedback, and celebrating successes just as much as flagging issues. Joe puts it simply: “We’re not here to nag – we’re here to support. At the end of the day, our job is to make theirs easier.”

Looking Ahead

The challenges are only growing – new regulations around street works and waste disposal are on the horizon, demanding even tighter controls. But with Cappagh Browne’s digital transformation giving them smarter tools, the team is ready.

“As the industry changes, we’ll be there to adapt with it,” says Scott. “Our goal is to make compliance seamless, so our teams can focus on the work they do best.”

Everyday Guardians

They may not always be visible, but the Quality and Compliance Team are the everyday guardians of Cappagh Browne – protecting our standards, our reputation, and most importantly, our people.

As Joe sums it up: “We’re not here to tick boxes – we’re here to raise standards, protect people, and make sure every job is done the right way.”

So next time you see a smoother process, a clearer form, or a safer site, take a moment to thank the unsung heroes working tirelessly behind the scenes.
